The sugar-cane trains on the Caribbean island of Cuba are some of the last remaining steam train reserves. The current economic situation in Cuba is the basis for its use of steam trains. From the point of view of a market economy such an industry is clearly unprofitable. The steam trains in use are mainly American products and date back to the years before the revolution, partly also to the days when the sugar industry was established in Cuba.
