Steam Rotary Snowplows

Steam snow-cutters are among the most fascinating of all trains. Their purpose is to keep railway tracks clear of snow and avalanches. Implemented when the snow has reached a depth of 1 metre or more, they can penetrate snow walls up to 6 metres high. As they are used only rarely and without prior planning, photos of them in operation are rare. Thanks to Armin Fuchs an operational HO model is available which is shown here next to some original photos.
