The last standard-gauge steam trains in regular use could be found not in the GDR but right on the other side of the Germany. Up until 1992 the Eschweiler-Bergwerks-Verein (EBV) ran steam trains on both of its coal mines in Alsdorf and Siersdorf in the Aachen region. Some of these locomotives have been preserved as display trains for future generations.
